Four People Arrested In Detroit In Connection With Teen Kidnapped And Killed Over $70

Three men and one woman have been taken into custody for the kidnapping and death of 13-year-old, Deontae Mitchell.

Kidnapped teen

Video footage shows Gregory Walker, 45, dropping $70 outside of Nino’s Market in Detroit. He was urinating outside of the store, most likely due to intoxication.
The 13-year-old was with his cousin when he picked up the cash, and moments later, Deontae is seen being forced into a car at gunpoint.

After discovering Deontae’s body in an overgrown field less than 5 miles from where he was abducted, the medical examiners have stated there were no apparent gunshots on his body. His cause of death is still unknown.

Mayor Mike Duggan and Police Chief James Craig held a joint press conference Friday, June 3, to further discuss details of this horrific case; also giving thanks to the community for their part in the getting these criminals into custody!

“You don’t go from someone committing a crime like this at 1 am Wednesday to having them in custody in another state Thursday without help from the community.” The city’s mayor stated, also adding, “”The story of Deontae being senselessly killed over a small amount of money is one that’s going to stay with us a long time.”

Chief Craig revealed before being forced in the car Deontae said his final two words to his cousin, “Help me.”

“We’re talking about a defenseless young man and an adult who was, frankly, three times his size,” Craig said.

Then just a few minutes after drove off, Walker is back in the store, with his gun, cursing and screaming. It’s believed that he was looking for the young man’s cousin.

Alleged kidnapper

Along with Walker, Ernest Coleman, Roy Portis, and Lillian Roberts, — the woman who was found with him hiding out in a Toledo, Ohio hotel – have all been arrested. Their connection to the case has yet to be announced.

Police say they expect charges against the four soon…

A memorial for Deontae has been placed in the field where his body was discovered.
