Former Obama Press Secretary Jay Carney Brags About 8 Years Free Of Scandals In The Whitehouse

Former White House press secretary Jay Carney told CNN Tuesday that the Obama administration was coming to an end completely “scandal-free.”

Appearing on “New Day,” Carney told anchor Alisyn Camerota that President Obama’s tenure in the White House was exemplary from both a personal and professional perspective.

“Beyond having a scandal-free presidency in terms of personal-life scandals, what do you think President Obama’s legacy is?” Camerota asked.

“I think that it was scandal-free beyond his personal life,” Carney said. “The man’s integrity, his decency and optimism about America that he embodied and pursued will be his legacy.”

“It was an honest and sincere effort driven towards the idea of making America better and improving the lives of everyday Americans.”

Conservatives often cite as examples of “scandals” during Obama’s eight years in office the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms’s Operation “Fast and Furious;” an alleged cover-up around the 2012 terror attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya; and the IRS allegedly targeting conservative groups.

“I don’t want to relitigate the entire eight years, but obviously Republicans don’t think it was scandal-free,” Camerota said to Carney.

The sentiment from Carney — who served as press secretary from 2009-2014 — echoes what Obama said in a November speech in Peru following the election of Donald Trump, as well as comments Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett made on New Years Day.
