CHICAGO — Four people are facing charges following an attack of a brother and sister in Canaryville last weekend, police said.

Courtney Vega, 19, 2900 block of South Throop; David Rice, 21, of the 500 block of West 46th Place; and Joya Urbikas, 18, and Kevin Hoynes, 21, both of block West Root were each charged with one count of attempted murder, aggravated battery, aggravated use of a deadly weapon and mob action against two people, police said in a statement.

Around 3 a.m. May 30, the stabbing occured during a fight in the 700 block of West Root Street, in Taylor Lauridsen Park, police said.

The victims, a 30-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, were taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition and treated for stab wounds, police said.

According to a Facebook post, Kristina Fox, 30, and her 25-year-old brother were near the park when they were confronted by a group of people.

“They were throwing glass bottles, crutches, bricks and anything else they could find at us,” Fox wrote on Facebook. “As we continued to fight through this crowd of assailants to get away, more Caucasians came from out of nowhere and joined in brutally attacking us delivering closed-fist blows and kicks to our bodies and head. We began the fight of our lives.”

Fox, who said the attack was racially motivated, suffered at least eight stab wounds and broken bones around her eye, according to ABC7. The attackers also stabbed her brother, who suffered a punctured lung.

The victims, a 30-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, were taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition and treated for stab wounds.

Vega, Urbikas, Rice and Hoynes are expected in bond court Sunday.
