EarHustle411 loves history and we are always pleased when we recall historic facts or things that take place with historical figures.  So check out just a few  things that have taken place on this day January 25th:

1.  The first African-American & 96th Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall died at age 85.  Marshall was extremely successful with arguing before the supreme court during his time as an attorney and his win in the Brown v. Board of Education which essentially was the decision that desegregated schools.

2.  Sir Winston Churchill Prime Minister of the United Kingdom died at age 90 on this day in 1965.  Churchill was a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, an Officer in the British Army and was said to have been one of the greatest wartime leaders of the 20th Century.

3.  In response to the terrorists attacks on September 11, 2001, the Department of Homeland Security officially began operating and former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge was sworn in as the department’s first secretary. Even though the department has already been “established” it had not been made an “official” department until January 24, 2003.

4.  Lastly, here’s one or those who like to “crack” open a cold one.  The first canned beer was made available on January 24, 1935. The American Can Company and Krueger Brewing Company made a delivery of 2,000 cans of the the frosty stuff to Richmond, VA.  Funny thing though, the American Can Company tried to can beer before in 1909, it was quite unsuccessful and unfortunately the company would have to put off its desires until after prohibition.
