A woman has died after she was wounded in a shooting on the South Side this afternoon.
According to police, the 32-year-old Nykea Aldridge was shot near 64th and Calumet in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood around 3:30 p.m..
Nykea Aldridge, the mother of four children, and the first cousin of Chicago Bulls Dwyane Wade, was walking down the street pushing her newborn in a stroller, when, according to police, an altercation occurred that “did not involve her.”
Shots were fired and Nykea was struck in the head and arm.
“She was an innocent victim in this senseless shooting,” said Chief of Detectives Jimmy Jones.
Dwyane Wade tweeted Friday night saying:
My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough

Nykea’s mother was at the news conference but did not speak.
Family says Nykea was on her way to register her other three children at Dulles Elementary School, which is nearby, at the time of the shooting.Police say a relative took custody of the child who was in the stroller at the time of the shooting.
