Don’t Do This Unless You Want Your iPhone Permanently Useless

Apparently someone with a lot of spare time found out the hard way what can happen when you tamper with your iPhone and it’s settings. Manually changing the date on your iPhone to January 1, 1970, will, what is known as “brick” your device which basically makes your phone completely useless. Doing this will prevent your phone from booting up until that battery is completely dead. In fact, setting your phone to any date before May 1970 will disable it.

Currently, there is no easy fix to this bug that Apple claims they are attempting to fix at the moment. The only options are to take your phone to Apple and have them fix it, which God knows how long that could possibly take or get a brand new phone all-together.

A new upcoming software update from Apple will supposedly fix the bug so be on the lookout for that.

For now, don’t tamper with your phone’s date and keep a close eye on your phone since changing this setting is easily accessible to anyone who is familiar with using an iPhone, thus making your phone completely useless if it were to come to that.

It is recommended to password protect your phone if you haven’t yet and probably should have some sort of protection on it in general.
