They can’t let it go! Disney announced on Thursday, March 12, that it would be making a Frozen 2 after 2013’s animated box office smash.
Though the buzzed-about short, Frozen Fever, is already airing in theaters before the live-action Cinderella film, fans have been anxiously awaiting news of a potential full-length sequel to the beloved princess film.
The announcement was made at the Disney shareholders meeting, and creators Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee will be returning to develop the sequel. Josh Gad has already signed on to return as Olaf, the goofy, singing snowman. Shortly after the announcement, he tweeted, “THATS RIGHT. #Frozen2 IS COMING!!!”
No other official casting was announced, but Kristen Bell, who voiced Princess Anna, tweeted a photo of herself using a bag of ice as a pillow, writing, “Dreams really do come 2!!! #FROZEN2 #itsofficial.”

“We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters,” said Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios John Lasseter. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”
The first film grossed $1.2 billion worldwide, making it the most successful animated film of all time.
