Police arrested a woman they said is responsible for killing and dismembering her 32-year-old son and dumping his body parts in China and St. Clair townships.

A 59-year-old St. Clair Shores woman was arrested Friday evening, according to a statement from the St. Clair Shores Police and St. Clair County Sheriff Department.

The body parts found about 4 p.m. Thursday on Allington Road and Fred Moore Highway were identified as her son. He was reported missing on Jan. 26 to the St. Clair Shores Police Department.

Fingerprints taken from the body were sent to the FBI and compared and matched with previous fingerprints from the missing 32-year-old man, according to the statement.

St. Clair Shores police Sgt. Jay Cohoe said a warrant including charges of open murder and dismemberment will be reviewed Monday by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

The arrest came after surveillance photos and video from a gas station on Fred Moore Highway were released to the media showing a woman and her older sports utility vehicle.

Investigators from St. Clair County and St. Clair Shores had warrants to search residences in the 22000 block of Rosedale and 23000 block of Gary Lane in St. Clair Shores.

The Michigan State Police Crime Lab assisted investigators processing the residences for evidence associated with the homicide and dismemberment of the victim, according to the statement.

Police have said there were three places where they found body parts on Allington Road between Trumble Road and Fred Moore Highway and one location of evidence on Fred Moore Highway, just east of Allington. Some of the body parts were in bags, others were not.

A fifth location was on the entrance ramp to westbound Interstate 94 off of Fred Moore Highway. The bag contained clothing and charred paper, police said.

The names of the victim and suspect have not been released.
