Chicago police have charged Deshawn Isabelle, 15, as an adult in connection with a robbery and sexual assault on a CTA Blue Line train.

Police say a 41-year-old woman boarded a Blue Line train at Oak Park Avenue around 3 p.m. Monday when she was attacked from behind, police say.

“She sat down and the offender attacked her from behind. He knocked her to the ground and attacked her,” said Detective Jackie Mock, Chicago police.

Police said the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her and stole her iPhone, before exiting the train at Cicero.

Authorities said the suspect, accompanied by his guardian, turned himself into police on Wednesday morning after seeing his photograph broadcast in the media.

Officials released surveillance photos of the suspect Tuesday as part of a community alert.

The Guardian Angels were outside the Austin Blue Line stop Wednesday passing out flyers, trying to get the word out to commuters.

“He got off at Cicero, but then he returned and exited the train station at Austin. We feel he’s very familiar. May even live in this neighborhood,” said Miguel Fuentes, Guardian Angels.

In addition to the Guardian Angels, Oak Park police have been seen patrolling the train platforms and riding the trains through the day. Investigators say, except for the suspect, the woman was alone in the train car when the attack happened.

“A couple of times I’ve been the only person in the car, but I always move up. I never sit in cars by myself. If I see somebody else at the front, when it stops I go to the front of the train where there’s people at. I don’t like to sit by myself,” said Martecia Swift, a Blue Line rider.

Isabelle will appear in bond court on Thursday.
