WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) –A home daycare center operator was found guilty on three counts of second degree child molestation, the Attorney General’s office confirmed Friday.
David Lyons, 68, was charged in 2011 with three counts of second-degree child molestation. After a 6-year-old girl told her mother, investigators said they found evidence the 6-year-old, her 9-year-old sister and an 11-year-old girl were molested by Lyons. Police alleged Lyons fondled the girls over and under their clothes. A fourth count was added later after another alleged victim was identified.
Lyons, a grandfather of four, denied the charges. The daycare, which was located in Coventry, was closed after the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families opened an investigation.
The jury returned the verdict after just over one hour of deliberations
