Teen abstinence advocate Bristol Palin recently made a very important point about the viability of abstinence as opposed to birth control and other means of preventing pregnancy as she announced she has gotten knocked up out of wedlock for the second time: It doesn’t work.

Palin, who nets $262,500 a year as an abstinence speaker, made it clear on her blog that she and her family are all displeased with the news — and why not? After all, this is just one more example of a Palin being a hypocrite as the clan dwindles into irrelevance:

“I wanted you guys to be the first to know that I am pregnant. Honestly, I’ve been trying my hardest to keep my chin up on this one. At the end of the day there’s nothing I can’t do with God by my side, and I know I am fully capable of handling anything that is put in front of me with dignity and grace. Life moves on no matter what.  So no matter how you feel, you get up, get dressed, show up, and never give up. When life gets tough, there is no other option but to get tougher.

I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you. But please respect Tripp’s and my privacy during this time. I do not want any lectures and I do not want any sympathy.”

Columnist Dan Savage pointed out that Bristol Palin’s second unwed pregnancy will likely be treated a lot less horrifically by those on the Right, like 2016 presidential candidate Jeb Bush, who regularly shames unwed mothers like Palin.

This child was likely spawned from Palin’s unholy union with her now-former fiance, the “F*ck You Michael Moore Guy,” though Savage notes that the father could be a yet-unnamed gentleman. While “the Hee Haw gang” at Fox News would jump on the daughter of anyone on the Left who had a child out of wedlock, Savage speculates that Palin will receive a much more gentle treatment from the right-wing propaganda factory:

“If Bristol Palin’s last name was “Obama” the whole Hee Haw gang at Fox News would spend half of every day for the next nine months telling us that Bristol Obama has terrible parents—”Maybe Michelle should be less concerned with what your kids are eating and more concerned with what her kids are doing!”—and the other half of the day pretending to fret over the terrible example that Bristol Obama was setting for other African American women and girls. But unplanned pregnancies and kids in fatherless homes and two different children by two different fathers? IOIYAR.”

Savage pointed out Palin’s hypocrisy on gay marriage, which just became legal nationwide (a double-yay for the Palin family). Bristol Palin has lectured President Obama endlessly on same-sex marriage:

Does anyone remember what Bristol Palin had to say back when Barack Obama endorsed marriage equality for the first time as president? (He had previously endorsed gay marriage back when he was a candidate for state office in Illinois in 1996.) President Obama told ABC News that Sasha and Malia’s perspective had informed his own. Both of his daughters had friends with gay and lesbian parents. It didn’t “make sense to them,” the president said, “that somehow their friends’ parents would be treated differently.”

Here’s what Bristol Palin had to say about that:

“While it’s great to listen to your kids’ ideas, there’s also a time when dads simply need to be dads. In this case, it would’ve been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage. Or that—as great as her friends may be—we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home. Ideally, fathers help shape their kids’ worldview.”

Fox News drone Geraldo Rivera took a break from posting horrific shirtless selfies to complain about Savage’s…savaging of Palin.

After seeing that tweet, Savage just had to get in on this.

Unfortunately, Rivera seems to have bowed out of the conversation after being challenged.

Palin’s wedding to right-wing nutjob Dakota Meyer was canceled last month for unspecified reasons. In a May 26 blog post, Palin addressed the “elephant in the room”:

“I feel like I need to address the elephant-in-the-room on this blog, since you guys have been with me through thick and thin.  When I first got engaged, you were the first ones I wanted to tell.

I guess you have seen by now that the wedding — that was supposed to happen last weekend — was called off.  I’m sure you’ve seen this has been all over the media, but this is a painful time for family and friends and I would just really appreciate your prayers.

I know God’s plan is greater than anything else, and Tripp and I are in Alaska beginning to rebuild our lives under much different circumstances than we anticipated.”

Palin’s hypocrisy in her “Screw as I say, not as I do” attitude is almost baffling. No, she should not be shamed because she had a child out of wedlock; that has no bearing on a person’s worth. She should be shamed because she has worked tirelessly to encourage our nation’s youth to forego birth control and keep themselves ‘pure’ by not doing what most Americans do pre-wedlock. After all, teen pregnancies are highest in states that push abstinence-only “education.”

Palin is a hypocrite — but it is certain we won’t be hearing that on Fox News anytime soon — even if the network did deem her mother too irrelevant to have an association with.
