Yesterday, we told you Dallas Cowboys star Orlando Scandrick was suspended by the NFL for four games after testing positive for MDMA, a substance found in molly and ecstasy. According to Scandrick, he did not realize that the substance was banned by the league.
“I would like to apologize to my children, my family, the Jones family, my coaches, my teammates and my fans,” he said in the statement. “Failing a drug test is far out of my character, and although I never knowingly took a performance-enhancing drug/banned stimulant while on vacation in Mexico, I take full responsibility for what goes in my body and more importantly for the embarrassment of a failed drug test.
Shortly after the news broke, rumors began to circulate that his ex-girlfriend, Draya Michele, is actually to blame for his downfall. A source told an ESPN reporter that an ex-girlfriend of the athlete convinced him to slip a molly in his cocktail while they were vacationing in Mexico. After learning about the rumors, Draya quickly took to Twitter to defend herself. Now, Orlando is doing the same.
“To clear up those rumors, I wasn’t persuaded, nor was I drugged,” Scandrick said during a Cowboys press conference. “I simply just made a bad choice.”
Draya was also sure to draw attention to Orlando’s clarification.
“Credible source: dallascowboys.com No apologies necessary, no offense was taken to what was reported about me. Thanks for being supportive,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
