VALENCIA, Calif. – A fire broke out Monday afternoon around the highest point of the recently closed Colossus wooden roller coaster at Magic Mountain.
The fire was reported about 1:30 p.m., and within about a half-hour, an upper section of the roller coaster had fallen away.
Crews, who poured water on the flames from fire trucks on the ground, had doused the blaze by 2 p.m. No injuries were reported, and it was unclear what caused the fire, according to county fire Inspector Scott Miller.
The Valencia amusement park was closed at the time.
Colossus, which opened to great fanfare in 1978, was permanently closed in mid-August and will be replaced with “Twisted Colossus.
