Chicago as crazy as it may be is what it is but what’s disturbing about the following article is although there may be some truth to it, it’s an eye-opener that a journalist from another major city that has its own issues within their own police department can touch on what Chicago refused to correct.  All residents of Chicago should be outraged and be compelled wise up and rise up.

The Chicago Police Department known for corruption throughout the department and it continues because it’s something about that “Blue Wall of protection”.  A city with a mayor who sits back and does nothing until forced to do so, it’s no wonder the department has been dubbed the “most corrupted in the country”.  Now is that a title anyone wants to brag about??

I don’t believe any police force in America is as corrupt and consistently brutal as the Chicago Police Department.

Built on sinking sand with the four pillars of racism, brutality, profiling and corruption holding the structure up, everything about the Chicago Police Department is now wilting under the limelight of America.

Ida B. Wells said it best: “The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them.”

When an Illinois judge ruled that the city could no longer conceal the horrific video of Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke brutally murdering Laquan McDonald, it was as if an essential piece of the house of cards was yanked out. Within hours of that ruling, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy and Prosecutor Anita Alvarez, who previously all seemed unbothered and unhurried to do anything about the 400-day-old case, rushed to make public statements of how horrendous and awful and unjust the shooting was.

Not one statement of the sort had ever been made by any of them until they knew that the public was going to see what they had all known for well over a year – that a young black teenager was murdered in cold blood and that the officer who did it and another officer who was there lied in their reports and said Laquan McDonald was coming at them with a knife and about to kill them.

All by itself, this is a scandal. The only appointed official among the three main players in the Chicago law enforcement, Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy was forced out by Emanuel, but the public is not and should not be satisfied. Since Alvarez and Emanuel are both elected, they are seemingly untouchable at the moment, but the world is crumbling around them.

Chicago’s chief of detectives just resigned.

The head of the police authority review board just resigned.

The city has paid out half a billion dollars in settlements for police brutality and misconduct in the past 10 years alone.

An off-the-books police facility where over 7,000 people were taken and had their rights trampled was uncovered.

So many people were tortured by the Chicago Police Department that a reparations fund was created.

So many people were wrongfully convicted that the city has now been labeled the “false confession capital of the world.”

These problems in Chicago go deep and have existed for so long because the law enforcement community has felt fully protected by the most powerful leaders in the city. Now that more and more of the truth is coming out, the people of Chicago are demanding new leadership from top to bottom.

I’m not sure how much longer Rahm can even last.
