Jennifer Williams, a young blonde girl from Texas, recently tweeted that she has made the life-changing decision to convert to Islam.
Williams’ announcement was met with national outrage, and now it appears that she is having second thoughts. Her tweets reportedly received some response from Muslim extremists. Williams told reports that “a healthy number” of her followers are now “Islamic extremists, including no small number of supporters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).”
“A lot of them live in Saudi Arabia,” Williams wrote in a blog post. “And some of them want to marry me.”
Little did Williams know that her tweet would go viral and that she would gain a following of violent new fans. She admitted that the viral tweet, in conjunction with another tweet of hers, may have given the impression that she supports ISIS. Immediately, she tweeted a clarification, but Williams was already branded across the world as a blonde American ISIS supporter.
According to reports, she is now “famous” in Saudi Arabia, and her story is being used “as propaganada by Salafis in Arabic-language social media circles.”
Williams had a message for her new followers.
“I, for one, do not appreciate having my conversion story used to attract more people to a repugnant ideology that spawns suicide bombings and beheadings,” she told reporters.
