Randy Boehning, a closeted Republican member of the North Dakota legislature, has been outed after sending explicit photos to a man on Grindr.

‘The 1,000-pound gorilla has been lifted,’ Boehning tells InForum. ‘I have to confront it at some point.’

The 52-year-old lawmaker believes his Grindr exchange was made public in retaliation for his voting against Senate Bill 2279 which would have provided legal protection to gays, lesbians and transgender people from being discriminated against.

A 21-year-old man named Dustin Smith says he recognized Boehning as a man he chatted with on Grindr who has the user named of ‘Top Man!’ He says the politician from Fargo sent him sexually suggestive messages and a photo of his penis.

Boehning says he is not out to all his friends and family and insists he’s also attracted to women.
