Movie award season is just getting underway, and Straight Outta Compton is already receiving nods.

Earlier this morning, nominations for the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced, and while the N.W.A. biopic only received one, it’s in the top category of Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, which is the SAG equivalent of the top picture of the year.

The film, directed by F. Gary Gray, is up against Beasts of No Nation, The Big Short, Spotlight, and Trumbo. Elsewhere, the blockbuster has gotten nominations for the NAACP Image Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and Satellite Award. Last night, it was named Best Picture, Best Ensemble, and Best Actor (Jason Mitchell) by the African-American Film Critics Association.

“Woke up to a #SAGAwards nomination for best ensemble #StraightOuttaCompton and now I can’t go back sleep,” tweeted Mitchell, who played the late Eazy-E in the pic. “What if I’m still asleep and dreaming that I’m on here tweeting about a #SAGAwards nomination? #Inception.”

Straight Outta Compton, released in August, made $24.1 million on its opening day, the fourth biggest August opening of all-time. Within a month, it had become the highest-grossing music biopic ever, beating out the Johnny Cash film Walk the Line.
