A Shelby County Schools spokesman said eight White Station High School students have been suspended and issued juvenile summons for their roles in an altercation Tuesday afternoon.

The district spokesman said the fight is believed to be related to incidents that occurred off-campus and spilled over into the school.

No one was seriously injured.

A FOX13 News viewer shared the shocking video of the violent fight.

“I don’t want to have to not be able to go there and not feel that my children are safe and most of all that they’re learning something because how can they learn in the midst of a mob rule,” said John Tashie, parent.

White Station administrators said on Facebook that the fight that occurred among eight female students was not newsworthy.

“We would like for you to know that we are fully aware of the situation and have disciplined all students involved. We are disappointed that the media feels this is newsworthy. This type of behavior from out students is unacceptable and all involved students are being held accountable accordingly.”

Shelby County Schools Superintendent Dorsey Hopson told FOX13 News he has seen the video of mob fight and is disappointed. He promises disciplinary action against students involved at a high school considered as a jewel of the school district.

“I am very disappointed in those students and they will be disciplined appropriately,” Superintendent Hopson said. “It also raises the question about what is going on in the home. There is a lot of anger out there, a lot of fighting and violence.”

“There is no mercy there,” said Tashie, a Spartan alumni and a parent of a White Station student. “My daughter sent me the videos and said this is what happened. There was a big fight in the lunch room. I looked at it and I was like, ‘Oh my God.'”

Tashie is committed to his Alma Mater but said his daughter has had problems there in the past.

“The last time I was there under these condition a kid had a gun there, and right before that my daughter had one of her wisdom teeth knock out by a student for no reason at all,” Tashie said. “It still is the jewel and we are going to make sure it remains the jewel.  We are taking the school back. We are not going to let thugs take over.”

Memphis Police said there have been over 360 calls to the high school in the last three years but FOX13 News is waiting to find what were the reasons for those calls.

“Today wasn’t the best day due to the choices of a few students but we choose to focus on the positive. There’s plenty of that at WSHS,” White Station posted on Twitter. 

A parent of the victim who was beaten up is not happy about the school’s response. She took her to the hospital to be treated.

When FOX13 News saw her mom, the student was just about to go in for CAT scans to check a lemon-sized bump on the side of her head.

“This fight went on at least five minutes before teachers came anywhere near the children,” the victim’s mother said. “I’m more mad at the school. They just push the problem off on the police and kick them out of school and it’s still a matter that I feel like they should have handled with the parents.”

The school district told FOX13 News said the fight started off school property and continued inside the school in the lunchroom.

The mother said the fight easily started on Facebook.

“Kids these days and technology pretty much can assume that it was because they posted on Facebook this morning that they were going to get her today,” the victim’s mother said.

She told me the fight didn’t stop in the school cafeteria but continued after the students were released from the police cruiser.

“The little girl came running toward the police car towards my daughter once again,” the parent said. “No police moved, no parents moved. All I got today was a citation that said a group of girls were fighting and a suspension to say she was suspended for the rest of the school year, which is not fair to me as a parent.

The mother said the bullying has been going on for at least a month and she’s tried to address it with the high school’s administration. She said the fight could have been prevented.

“Even after I talk with them, coming up there, I have not received a call from the principal, I have not got a parent teacher conference with the principal, I have no contact with the principal at all even today after everything has happened.”
