Woman Caught On Live Camera Feed Shooting At A Driver At A Detroit Gas Station

A day after Detroit police released video that shows a woman hiding a gun in her underwear before opening fire on a driver at a gas station, three people are in custody.

Surveillance cameras were rolling just after 4 a.m. Sunday at a Mobil gas station at Fenkell and Greenfield roads when two groups of people got into an argument.

The video shows the woman and three other people standing outside a Dodge Charger when a Pontiac Grand Prix pulls into the station. Words are exchanged, and the woman retrieves a handgun from the Charger’s glove box, police said.

In the video, the woman’s friends try to hold her back, but she rushes to the Grand Prix and starts shooting, hitting the driver several times, police said.

During the shooting, the Grand Prix jolted forward, hitting one of the men who was with the suspect, police said.

Police said one of the men who was in the Grand Prix was able to wrestle the gun away from the woman and both vehicles left the area. The occupants of the Grand Prix took their friend to the hospital and returned to the gas station to turn over the gun to officers.

“Someone knew her, and there were people already positioning themselves in the community that wanted to reach out and touch us as soon as they saw her picture,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said.

The victim, who was struck by several bullets, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The gas station’s cameras are part of “Project GreenLight,” a partnership with the city in which the cameras feed directly back to the police department.
