UIC Pavilion Met With Harsh Backlash After Cancellation Of New Edition Concert

Mother Nature must have been really upset that she couldn’t get a ticket to the Chicago Windy City Music Festival featuring New Edition because Chicago was swept away in a massive downpour of rain that hit the city at about 6:15pm in the downtown area.  Fans of New Edition, Babyface and Chicago’s own Raheem DeVaughn who travelled from as far as Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio were all ready for great performances as they drove through the thunderstorms to gather at the UIC Pavilion.

As the fans are sitting waiting patiently for the start of the show which was scheduled for 8:00pm an announcement was made at about 8:57pm by Chicago’s own comedian Damon Williams who tried to smooth over the bad news that the concert as cancelled due to flooding.  There was so much water that the sound crew could not turn on the equipment out of the safety for the performers and the attendees.  Damon is his hilarious way of doing things said ” let’s be grateful because we all would be electrocuted up in here”.  The audience laughed of course but were extremely disappointed and Damon asked that everyone exit the building safely but peacefully.  An announcement is expected to be made next week as to the rescheduled date for the concert.

Many concert goers have taken to social media with their disappointment of how things were handled by the venue not to mention how can the venue have flooded like it did it the building was up to par.  It’s not like this is the first time the Chicago area has been hit by severe thunderstorms.  This situation does shed some light on the maintenance or possibly a lack thereof of the upkeep of the building which to our recollection is owned and operated by the University of Illinois.  Unfortunately this may not be the last of the backlash the Pavilion will get as it relates to the building’s upkeep.  People who have driven from miles around vow to get some answers.

The venue had posted on their Facebook page about 2 hours after the announcement was made and they were met with some very harsh comments.

Although the event will be rescheduled, it does not sit well with the people who paid well over $100 for tickets and who knows how much money traveling and making their way to the venue only to be welcomed by a makeshift swimming pool that could have been avoided if the building was secure.

EarHustle411 will post updates as they are released.
