CHICAGO — Two people were killed in a shooting on the Kennedy Expressway.

It happened at around 4:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 90/94 near Armitage Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.

Police say a man and a woman were shot. They found a black semi-automatic weapon on the floorboard of the driver’s side of the silver Chevrolet Tahoe SUV. The victims were identified as Eric Taylor, 43, and Camille Cooley, 36, both of Waukegan, Illinois.

Emergency responders and state police cars blocked off all outbound lanes of the Kennedy this morning.

Chicago has seen a dramatic rise in gun violence this year, including this troubling trend of expressway shootings.

Earlier this year, the Illinois State Police launched a campaign to try to stop highway shootings, by beefing up uniformed patrols and surveillance from aircraft, video cameras and undercover officers.
