Visa ban for country Tump called a s***hole as Haitians are excluded from program that attracts seasonal foreign workers
The Trump administration is slapping a ban on Haitians applying to come to the U.S. on low-skilled seasonal work visas – just a week after the president reportedly complained about people coming in from ‘s***hole’ countries like Haiti.
The move follows an earlier decision by the Homeland Security Department to end Temporary Protected Status for 59,000 Haitians already living here.
The president has denied saying ‘anything derogatory about Haitians’ following a Washington Post report that he singled out the impoverished nation during an Oval Office meeting on immigration.
‘Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out,’ Trump said according to a Washington Post report – in comments he has explicitly denied.
Haitians will no longer be eligible for special visas given to low-skilled workers, bringing an end to a small-scale effort to employ Haitians in the United States after a catastrophic 2010 earthquake.
