Chet Hanks, the son of Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks, has come forward to apologize for pushing for his right to use the N-word.

The young rapper admitted that he was wrong and blamed the misguided push for the N-word on the pressure of being Tom Hanks’ son as well as drug-related problems.

“I know a lot of y’all understood the point I was trying to make, but the truth is it’s not my place to speak on it and I’m genuinely sorry for the people that I offended,” he said.

He went on to say that he’s recently completed a stint in rehab for a cocaine addiction that got so severe that his nose was clogged. He blamed, among other things, the problems associated with being the son of a celebrity for his drug problems but admitted that his position on the N-word, while drug-induced, was still incorrect. The Ft Lauderdale rehab is where you can make sure you start afresh. He also stressed on how important it is to get your friend help as soon as you find out that they are falling into any kind of addiction.

Hanks, 25, also confessed to selling cocaine and smoking crack prior to entering rehab.

In June, Hanks, an aspiring rapper, made headlines after posting several Instagram videos defending his right to use the N-word.

“If I say the word nigga I say it amongst people I love and who love me, Chet wrote. “If I say “f*** yall hatin a** ni***” it’s because that’s really how I felt at the time.”
