Earlier, officials had incorrectly identified the girl as being 3 years old. Jah’niyah of the 1700 block of East 67th Street, was at her grandfather’s home when the attack occurred, officials said.

An autopsy today determined that she died from multiple injuries she sustained in a dog attack and said a contributing factor was neglect and her death was ruled a homicide, officials said.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the grandfather for allegations of abuse, according to DCFS spokeswoman Karen Hawkins. The agency has not had prior contact with the family.

Chicago Police detectives were conducting a death investigation after they were called to the 91st Street address about 2:45 p.m. Saturday to assist Fire Department personnel there, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said Sunday Area South police were conducting a non-criminal death investigation into the girl’s death.
