The son of the Chicago Housing Authority CEO was charged Wednesday in a homicide in Indianapolis, according to authorities.

Eugene Jones, 18, has been charged with murder and robbery in the killing Sunday of 18-year-old Deante Williams, authorities said. Jones is the son of CHA CEO Eugene Jones Jr., who oversees the city’s public housing, according to a statement released by the agency.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred around 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Wes Montgomery Park in Indianapolis, according to a release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Williams was shot at least once and died of his injuries, with the motive believed to be robbery, police said.

Jones turned himself in to Indianapolis police headquarters, where he was questioned and later taken into custody.

Jones Jr. released a statement Wednesday:

“This is a situation that no parent expects to find themselves in and I will, like any parent, handle this as a family matter and I cannot offer any further comment.”
