The Ladies Of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Pays Tribute Of Solidarity In Black To Their Sister Sandra Bland

The death of Sandra Bland has rocked the minds and shaken the spirits of people to the very core across the globe.  However nothing like this could ever be fathomed by Sandra’s sorority sisters in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.  With the organization being founded in 1922, on the 22nd of every month, the Black Greek Lettered Organization systematically celebrates its existence by flooding social media with creatively designed photos to show a sense of oneness and love for the organization.  This month’s picture is equally as special as those from previous months.  Unfortunately, the events surrounding the design for the month of July is so very heartbreaking.  If we were to ask members of Sigma Gamma Rho, we believe the answers would be the same…sheer disbelief.

SGRho 22ndMembers of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has been holding prayer vigils and gathering in the name of sisterhood since the news broke about Sandra Bland. The strong bond amongst the sorority sisters has become increasingly stronger and not to mention the concern about the perils of unfair policing practices against people of color are on the minds of the members as well because the issue has increasingly involved women.

As Sandra Bland’s case unfolds and more details come out about what really happened to her, it’s enough to dampen the mood with every update.   Everyone wants answers but most importantly justice…you know the “swift” kind.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., having been founded on November 12, 1922 whose mission statement and snippet about the organization reads:

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority‘s aim is to enhance the quality of life within the community. Public service, leadership development and education of youth are the hallmarks of the organization’s programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically, and economically.

Sigma Gamma Rho was founded on and continues to be steadfastly committed to the tenets of excellence in Scholarship, Sisterhood and Service.  Sigma Gamma Rho has a proud legacy of providing positive and proactive community leadership and support when and wherever needed as indicated by the sorority’s international slogan, “Greater Service, Greater Progress.”

EarHustle411 and the writing staff pray that the members of Sigma Gamma Rho are using this unfortunate situation to educate the people of the communities they serve but also encourage them to know that the fight for maintaining the basic human right has just begun.  We cannot continue to allow people in positions of authority to trample on the civil liberties of human beings regardless of race, color or gender.  Anytime the life of an animal is worth more than that of a human being, we have a serious problem.  This case is in no way  an open and shut case and the real fight has just begun, but we know that Sandra Bland is calling the shots from the grave and we had surely better listen, heed and understand.

WE HEAR YOU SANDRA!!!
