According to WGN TV, An Indiana teenager is in custody after he and some of his friends were accused of putting a 3-year-old girl in a washer and dryer and turning on the machines.

According to WANE, the child’s mother, Missy Camp, left the 14-year-old boy in charge of her two daughters on June 2. She told the station he was a family friend, and had looked after her child before. Prosecutors say once the mother left, the boy and a few friends allegedly put the one of the children, 3-year-old Raelyn, in a washing machine and dryer.

When Missy Camp came home, she said she found Raelyn with bruises on her body, according to WANE. The 5-year-old sister reportedly told her what had happened.

The boy allegedly told officers they were imitating a YouTube video in which an animal was placed in a washer or dryer.

“I go home; I’m upset, but at the same time I feel like I can’t really sit and cry and I need to keep both of my kids happy, not as depressed about it,” the mother told WANE. She also she came home to find her apartment trashed, with broken toilets, a broken TV and a broken window.

An investigation began once police received a report earlier this month. The incident sparked internet outrage, with many taking to social media to condemn the acts and demand justice. A hashtag, #JusticeForRaelyn, has circulated ever since. Last reports said charges were still pending.

However according to WANE some authorities are discouraging internet commentary. Garrett Police Department chief Roland McPherson says he regrets that people are going on social media to discuss the situation before all the facts are known.

But that hasn’t stopped many from calling for justice.

“My first goal is to just get one to break down and just kind of admit or say who did it and from there press charges and hopefully they get what they deserve,” Missy Camp said.

A GoFundMe account has also been set up that purports to show the child’s injuries.
