Taye Diggs on Best Man Cast “Being Around Them Black Women Made Me Miss My White Wife”…

Call him shallow or self- hating, Taye Diggs tells black women how he really feels about them. Although all the black female cast members on The Best Man Holiday were beautiful and intelligent, Taye says white women are his cup of Tea. He is alleged to have said, I have never loved any black woman besides my mother”.

Taye Diggs

New York – “I’m just saying the last black woman I was with name Stella” Tmz caught up with actor Taye Diggs to question him on how it felt to be back on the big screen.

“Let’s just say its not a stereotype that black women are less submissive and harder to deal with. Being around all them black women made me really miss my wife” Stumbling out of a New York bar fresh off a world wind press tour in Los Angeles with wife Idina Menzel in tow Taye spoke briefly on the cast and breakaway success of ‘The Best Man Holiday’

Somebody will be upset and say I got rich and deserted my female people; No offense, but the only black woman I ever loved is my mama. – Taye Digg.

This should come as no surprise as Mr. Diggs spoke briefly on his mother always knowing he’d marry a white girl on a radio talk show back in 2011.

Interesting fact: 3 out of the 4 Black male cast were/are married to white women in real life; None to black.

Morris Chestnut has been married to his BLACK wife for 17 years. I don’t know about any of the other fellas but it isn’t accurate to say that “none of them ever had a black wife.” Either way I find it sad.

It also goes on to say “None to Black” which implies that the 4th person is either a perpetual bachelor or has been married to someone who is nether Black nor White.

The issue really is correct in what you say, love who you choose color isn’t factor or it shouldn’t be. The issue with this story is this don’t put “black” women down or speak negatively about us. That’s the point. Only a fool would make a ignorant comment like the one Taye has, maybe he was intoxicated, being that said many “black” men feel as he does about “black” women, he’s speaking their truth. As a “black” women I surely am not mad at him because he insulted himself, mother and his wife with that level or ignorance and a “white” women can have him because he identifies them as submissive, I’d rather be strong.

Yes he does. Lol… Men who specifically frame their words that way clearly have complexes about themselves. He is black as SHIT and probably has misplaced aggression against white men as well as the black girls who turned his black butt down in his childhood. One should marry for love and love is blind. Hence, you would not have to go around stating ignorant stuff like that. There are plenty submissive black women and plenty aggressive white women. He is so ignorant!

According to the article, that’s exactly what Taye does. He says he’s never loved a Black woman because the stereotype of Black women being less submissive and hard is true. Yes, it IS about color for him. He feels white women are more submissive.

Black women are always mad when a black man steps outside his race when they never wanted his ass to begin with. The man has freedom of speech so let him do him. Most of y’all women commenting negative about what he said probably are unmarried and bitter.

Well movies are fantasies. Hello, sorry to tell you but that’s what a movie is. There is something pathetic and immature to see adult people expecting a movie to fulfil their real life expectations. with that said, I’m surprised that Diggs would put that out there so blatantly. Not that he is responsible for how people respond to his life but still it’s kind of in your face.

Of course the black women on that movie set were most likely not submissive women. They are all hard driving professional career minded women. You can’t get that far in that business without being driven, I don’t care what your image is. Mr. Diggs should know that. especially if you are women of color. Give me a break. They are probably all obsessive, take no prisoners, business women.

    • Anonymous

      November 24, 2013 at 8:25 AM

All of this is just disheartening, yes, if he preference is white women then fine, but don’t say after being on the set with all black women, that made him miss his white wife. I hear some self rejection there. As usual black women are being held at a lower standard and not honored by a black man. It is disrespectful and shows he and whoever else has a problem with intelligent, hard working beautiful black women are ignorant to our worth. My feeling for Mr.Tay Diggs have changed and now I am not interested in any other movie he will be in from here on out and will not purchase a ticket.

Self hatred is one thing. Falling in love with someone outside your race is a freedom and right that comes as part of the Constitution. Hey, people can now actually choose to date & legally marry outside their gender. Let’s not paint everyone’s choice with the same broad brush.

    • JL

      November 27, 2013 at 6:57 PM

Larry, we don’t have to paint anything. If we are to believe this article, Mr. Diggs dates white women simply because he’s intimidated by Black women. He said as much. This apparently wasn’t based on “love”. He’s decided to go after the white alternative on purpose. If he’d never had the bad experiences he apparently did in his youth, he wouldn’t have chosen to date exclusively white. He might not have dated white girls at all.

  10. MJ

    November 24, 2013 at 6:39 AM

Taye Diggs doesn’t dislike black women, he dislikes himself. He stated that “black women are less submissive and harder to deal with.” It only shows his insecurities within himself because he needs a woman he can control and dominate. Most men that insecure have small penises and low self-esteem. Another funny thing is that it is not true. I see white couples all the time and I’m always amazed how white women run everything. And let’s be honest, his wife is very unattractive. Unattractive ppl usually have low self-esteem thus making them more submissive. It’s not a black and white thing, it’s a chauvinistic, insecure, little funny-looking man that needs to feel BETTER than his wife issue.Attractive women period aren’t extraordinary submissive, they don’t have to be because they have options. Wesley Snipes has the same issue. If you notice, they are both not-that attractive dark men. They have self-hatred issues.

    November 24, 2013 at 6:58 AM

Please tell me what is really the issue here? Is it that these are actors in a movie, which does not reflect their personal life, they are actors? Is it that this man loves who he wants to love? Did he really say those words being around all those Black Women made me miss my wife as if he had an issue with those women? I am just confused and before you say it or ask it, I am married to a Black Woman. The movie was great and why can’t we leave it at that.

    • JL

      November 27, 2013 at 7:00 PM

I don’t know your race, but you’re a man. As such, you will never feel the sting that all Black women feel hearing these types of broad accusations. Taye Diggs is wrong for saying he prefers white women because “Black women are not submissive. Black women are hard.” That’s ridiculous and impossible. Black women come in all flavors, color, style, and personality. He’s insulted an entire group of people. That’s the entire issue here.

  12. Vonda

    November 24, 2013 at 7:22 AM

He can’t satisfy a black woman that’s why he flocks to white women. Look at all the men who claim they would never date a black woman. They are a bunch of weak clowns or women beaters.

  13. tamara

    November 24, 2013 at 7:30 AM

All I can say is, in every race there are submissive women and there are aggressive women. To say that ALL black women are like the women in the movie is wrong. Just like saying ALL white women are submissive is wrong. He should have just left it as I like my women submissive and weak and left race out of it.

I am a black man and I am color blind. Black, Yellow, Red or White I give my love to my ladies all the same. I have long comprehended that the color don’t make the man. What make us different are our actions, heart and thoughts my friends. I have my preference in women, but simply based on my experiences. Now making such a statement saying you never loved any black woman, but your mother, makes me wonder if you have even ever take the opportunity to get to know any black woman. I cannot even think that you have been traumatized by some very bad experiences with black women. So therefore, your statement is pure racist. It is perfectly fine to have your preferences, but it is completely wrong to never see goodness and great qualities in any woman of your own kind, beside your mama.

Interesting…..Howard Is Single So He’s Not With ANYONE…..So That Don’t Even Apply. So What We Have Narrowed It Down To 2 Now For The Male Cast Members????? I Think So….
Black Women Are Submissive But If The Brother Is On Foolishness More Times Than Not He’s Going To Get The Horns. I Don’t Believe Any Black Woman Truly Desires To Be The Head Of Her Household But With What’s Coming Up And What Available To Them They’ll Take The Head Of Household.
But Of Course You Have To Take This From A Standpoint Of Black Female Cast members With The Exception Of Ms. Long. The Others Don’t Have To Do Anything To Appeal To A Married Black Man Anyways….So Who Cares????

  18. Doug

    November 24, 2013 at 9:24 AM

I think this was Taye Diggs way of sating that he loves his wife, given the subject matter of the movie. Also, isn’t this “stick to your own kind” mentality something we have been fighting for for over 60 years. It’s not right to hear it from anyone “white or black”!!!

    • JL

      November 27, 2013 at 7:04 PM

Doug, nobody that I’ve read here has said he should, “stick to his own kind.” What had posters upset is the blatant insult to all Black women. Why is this so hard to comprehend? If we said, “White men are pigs”..I would think White men would take offense (excluding the ones who just don’t care, of course). I’m only using that as an example. This should be simple to understand, but it seems everyone outside of the sisterhood feels it’s okay to bash Black women as a group. This is a major problem.

It’s fine to love who you want. The problem is putting black women in a bubble of being non-submissive. We work hard and are uneasy to control, because we are not yours to control. I go hard everyday at being a Christian, wife, mother, employee, what have you. Yet I salute my husband like the honored Godly soldier he is. Pleasing my husband is a choice that I adhere to because I want to not because I have to. The movie was awesome, but it should not define how we view these men. They were paid to perform a role, which I might add they did very well. There private lives are just that private. If Mr. Diggs stated these words, shake it off. If you’ve never loved a black women besides his mother, then he has no idea whata great black women is like, its sad he had only encountered what he feels is the sad side of black women. Congratulations to him and his wife. May blessings continue to rain upon them.

Any man that needs to have a woman be submissive and subordinate, has very low self esteeem. Obviously Diggs is saying by his statement his ego is too fragile to be on equal footing with a woman who is not interested in being submissive to him but equal to him. Is he saying White women are easily controlled? If so, he may find out just how wrong that assumption in the divorce settlement. Will her whiteness mean a thing as she takes the green and leave ole Taye picking his chin off the floor since that’s all he will have left.

I wonder if he’d sing that same tune if collectively Black and Hispanic women boycott all his work. Put him and his woman of choice in the street via shutting down his income. Then let’s see how long his chosen one submits to him. That is when he will see how aggressive she really is. Onto the Courts, wipe him out, leave him in the ditch and keep stepping. She’ll have the green and he will just be a shadow in her memory. Love your own and love yourself Taye. You want to be with the slave masters daughter, no problem, but you don’t have to disrespect your own, on your way to her plantation.

  25. P.O.G

    November 24, 2013 at 11:51 AM

Folks, we should not become enamored by a snippet of what a person says without reading the entire article. They purposely put out these items to invoke the current dialogue we are having, causing us to question us rather than focusing on them. Regardless of his feelings, they are his. Notice how they did not report any positives he may have spoken about his cast mates. Now we can expect a reply from the Black women of the movie in order to further result in our ongoing questioning of us and battle between Black women and Black men and our love relationships. Than if they have no comment, that will be news. Next we may see that they will refuse to work together again. This is how we allow ourselves to be dismantled.

We have to shift our dialogue and begin to ask “Why is it important for TMZ to post that comment?” “What was their purpose?” and “What did they hope to accomplish?”

They asked about him getting back to work. The quote they provided did not answer the question posed; therefore we should be questioning the reporter for his lack of tact for the reading and listening audience. I want to know how he feels getting back to work (I really don’t, but for the sake of argument, that is what I want to know). This is a recurring cycle, folks, in order to engage us in more self hatred and self questioning. Again, lets start questioning the purpose of putting out that quote versus why Mr. Diggs feels the way he does. I really don’t care that he feels that way because I can’t change his perception, his experiences, nor his mindset. He is who he is, he thinks how he thinks and he loves who he loves. Only he can change that. What we can change is how we respond and where to focus our intellectual energy – on him or on how to build strong relationships built upon the relationship rather than what others have done to me. At the end of the day, we will all watch the movie again regardless of what we think about his quote and his choices. I am waiting on it to hit Red Box. Can we please begin to engage in the problem itself and not the perpetrator of the problem?

He is confused. He had to say that to make his wife feel good because he was tempted around all those black women on the cast all the days he was gone. In the white man eye he’s still a nigga. Color doesn’t make a difference that’s on the outside. Its what’s on the inside that matters. That white woman may accept a lot of crap a black woman won’t. He just can’t handle a black sister. How come he didn’t star in a white cast to make it to the top. He knew the cast had majority black women before he agreed to star. ha.. look at all the “sistahs” getting butthurt over a satire article.. like kicking a hornets nest, ha. as a minority man, I only date white women cause it’s an attraction based preference. I like the white skin, the hair texture, the fact that razor burn is a nonfactor.. I like the tone of their voice, skin complexion and so on.

it’s about what you are attracted to..

I find it interesting that the article states that this was his response to TMZ but it is not on their website nor have they aired it. This would be big news that they would revel in exposing. It doesn’t even sound like words that he would use if he did say something like that. The headline says “white wife” but in the article it states that he said “wife”. Well, what exactly did he say, if anything. Why are you using an old pic? His wife had a baby 4 years ago and she is not pregnant now. Sounds extremely suspect!

For a woman to be submissive to her husband is being in a place or position of power and strenght. Any time a man or a woman begins to operate from where God did not put them, they completely loose who they are and what their destiny has in store for them. A woman who is submissive to her husband is actually in control.

If he stated those words….he’s wrong all day. Cant understand why he never loved or like a black women besides his mother….unless he grew up in an all-white neighborhood/community. But i can never contemplate why black women get offended by words such as Taye Diggs, but turn around and say the say thing about their girlfriends and family members. Its like a double standard. They can recognize the (bs), but when men do it….they get all up tight. All i hear from sistas…about other sistas is usually negative…how they cant stand that B%^$h, or how she gonna wear that dress. How can you recognize the stuff black women and dont want to be a part of it….but when black men or other race acknowledges it….its a crime.

My Problem with this jerk, is why couldn’t he say doing this movie made me miss my wife I had to hurry home, why be specific and start in on skin color. What does that have to do with LOVE, and the statement about the only black woman he’s ever loved is his mom. He’s just another Wesley Snipes, and look where Wesley is today.

As a black woman his entire interview was offensive to me personally. I know a lot of black actors, athletics, well to do people so to speak are married to other races. But because I assumed they were in love with someone outside of their race and that’s terrific to me, May God Bless the union. But its not necessary to put Black Women down. I don’t care who you marry. Love is Love and you can’t help how the heart feels.

So Taye, I hope you and your white wife have a great life, but I will never be supportive of anything you do on stage, screen, or any place else.

You have to remember who you are, and if you forget. Ask OJ….

I believe people should love who they want. But it’s hard not to wonder if black people weren’t victims of institutional slavery and the mental chains that result from it ,would so many of us have a hard time seeing beauty in each other. This brother doesn’t say he loves all women and prefer white women. It’s not as if he prefers Vanilla over chocolate but will eat chocolate. That’s a preference. He’s actually discriminating against black women. He doesn’t like black women. In a world where African slavery never existed, no one would have an opinion about who he chose to love. But the reality is the choice he makes in women has been affected by the experience of slavery, the lingering affects of that institution along with white supremacy and privilege. It’s not an even choice as he or many others make it seem.

A Black man’s response to the
    “Disgusted White Girl” article

    Dear Jamie,
I would like to respond to the letter written by “A Disgusted White Girl.” Let me start by saying that I am a 28 year old black man. I graduated from one of the most prestigious Universities in Atlanta Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management. I have a good job at a major corporation and have recently purchased a house. So, I consider myself to be among the ranks of successful black men.

I will not use my precious time to slander white people. I just want to set the record straight of why black men date white women. Back in the day, one of the biggest reasons why black men dated white women was because they were considered easy. The black girls in my neighborhood were raised in the church. They were very strict about when they lost their virginity and who they lost it to. Because of our impatience to wait, brothers would look for someone who would give it up easy without too much hassle. So, they turned to the white girls.

Nowadays, in my opinion, a lot of brothers date white women because they are docile and easy to control. A lot of black men, because of their insecurities, fears, and overall weaknesses, have become intimidated by the strength of our black women. We are afraid that our woman will be more successful than us, make more money than us, drive nicer cars and own bigger houses. Because of this fear, many black men look for a more docile woman. Someone we can control. I have talked to numerous black men and they continuously comment on how easy it is to control and walk over their white women.

I just want to set the record straight. I want a “Disgusted White Girl” to know that not all successful black men date white women. Brothers like Ahmad Rashad, Denzel Washington, Michael Jordan, Morris Chestnut, Will Smith, Blair Underwood, Samuel Jackson, and Chris Rock all married strong black women. And to flip the scrip, there are numerous white men, in and out of the spot light, who openly or secretly desire black women over white women. Ted Danson, Robert DeNiro, and David Bowie to name a few.

I just don’t want “a disgusted white girl” to be misinformed. Stop thinking that because you are white that you are some type of goddess. Remember, when black Egyptian Queens like Hatsepshut and Nitorcris were ruling Dynasties and armies of men in Egypt, you were over in the caves of Europe eating raw meat and beating each other over the head with clubs. Read your history.

It was the black woman that taught you how to cook and season your food. It was the black woman that taught you how to raise your children. It was black women who were breast feeding and raising your babies during slavery. It is the black woman that had to endure watching their fathers, husbands, and children beaten, killed, and thrown in jail. Black women were born with two strikes against them: being black and being a women. And through all this, Still They Rise!

It is because of the black women’s strength, elegance, power, love and beauty that I could never date anyone except my black Queen. It is not just the outer beauty that captivates and draws me to them. It is not the fact that they come in all shapes, sizes, colors and shades that I love them. Their inner beauty is what I find most appealing about black women.

Their strong spirit, loving and nurturing souls, their integrity, their ability to overcome great obstacles, their willingness to stand for what they believe in, and their determination to succeed and reach their highest potential while enduring great pain and suffering is why I have fallen in love with black women. I honestly believe that your anger is geared more toward jealousy and envy than snotty looks.

If this were not so, then why do you continuously go to tanning salons to darken your skin? If you are so proud to be white, then why don’t you just be happy with your pale skin? Why do you continue to inject your lips, hips, and breast with unnatural and dangerous substances so you can look fuller and more voluptuous? I think that your anger is really a result of you wanting to have what the black woman has.

Bottom Line: If I were looking for a docile woman. Someone I can walk over and control, I would give you a call. But unfortunately, I am looking for a Virtuous Woman. Some one that can be a good wife and mother to my children. Someone who can be my best friend and understands my struggles. I am looking for a soul mate. I am looking for a sister and unfortunately you do not and can not fit the bill. I guess you are just S.O.L. No offense taken, none given.

    Signed,
    Black Royalty

Having responded to several postings, I have to point out that Taye Diggs probably NEVER said any of this. The text comes from a satire site called CREAM.BMP. It’s written by a little known comedian named “Cream”. This is probably fiction. Hey may feel this way, but he’s never said so in an interview, apparently. Mr. Diggs knows it would hurt him at the box office.
