Teams typically schedule free-agent visits with their prime targets first and then do everything they can to keep them from making any more visits. So it was Tuesday night when Lovie Smith and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought in Josh McCown.
On Wednesday the Bucs, who visit Soldier Field sometime on this season’s schedule, had succeeded in keeping the former Bears quarterback from getting on a plane for New York or Houston, signing McCown to a two-year deal.
McCown is expected to start or at least compete for that job with Mike Glennon, Tampa Bay’s pick in the third round of the 2013 draft and who posted a 4-9 record as a starter.
