The award-winning director of Selma, Ava Duvernay, was honored by Mattel in New York City during the Variety’s Power of Women luncheon. The Shero collection was unveiled on April 24 which includes a Barbie version of herself and 5 other influential women.
The director, screenwriter, film marketer, and film distributor founded the African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement which provides a platform for other black filmmakers and is the first black female to direct a film nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
