2016: The year Santa saved Christmas, in Everett, Pa.

Ryan Kennedy, the manager of a Walmart branch in the small town of Everett (population 1,700), received a phone call from the anonymous “Santa B” last week. The conversation that passed between the two resulted in Mr. Claus saying he’d pay the entire cost of the store’s layaway items, CNN reports.

Kennedy told CNN that “it was complete disbelief. It was definitely a great gesture.”

Santa B informed the store manager that he would pay for every layaway item on hold — amounting to $46,265.59.

Kennedy and the gracious caller arranged a time for another party to drop off the check. Kennedy said the store received the money on Wednesday, CNN reports. With the donation in hand, store employees began to call the 194 people with layaway accounts to inform them their items have been paid for and can be picked up at once.

Kennedy even said some individuals were brought to tears by the good deed.

With layaway items, customers can set their purchases aside for a time as they pay them off. This time of year, layaway is frequently used to purchase Christmas gifts.

Luckily for Santa B, Kennedy said that many of the items included in the over $46,000 purchase were Christmas gifts.

Shopper Christa Morton told CNN affiliate WJAC that her daughter warned her she’d cry once she heard the message left by Walmart.

On Facebook, Lewis Nancy Smith wrote: “I have heard of this happening in larger areas, but nothing exciting happens in our small town. This time it did.”

Kennedy even said that he’s familiar with cases of a secret Saint Nick paying off layaway items in other store locations. But he admitted he did not think his store would be chosen, CNN reports.

He wants to let Santa B know just how much the large-scale donation meant for his customers.
