Say What??? Two Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Brothers Married Each Other [Video]

Gay grooms 2

Although this wedding is a few years old it just goes to show that when love finds you, it just finds you. check out the original story as it was reported by The Huffington Post.

Twitter exploded with retweets of and rants about a video of two men, both members of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, getting married — to each other. The heartfelt video features a collage of photos from the couple’s September 2012 nuptials in front of family and friends.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., or KAΨ, is a prestigious collegiate Greek-letter fraternity comprising mostly African-American members, with active undergraduate and alumni chapters on major campuses and cities throughout the country. The organization also has international chapters around the world.

I was completely taken by surprise that so many negative tweets about the beautiful union were flooding the social media site. After watching the video, all I could do was kiss my wedding band and think about my special moment in time that will live forever: marrying the great love of my life, my husband. The video is so important and struck a chord with me. You see, I, too, am a member of the great brotherhood of Kappa Alpha Psi.

The fact that people can openly joke and be so negative about two members of Kappa Alpha Psi being married to one another is unnecessary and cruel. In 2012 those who oppose equality for same-sex couples are definitely on the wrong side of progress. To those who have posted the video with nasty commentary, get over it. Get over yourself. What’s taking place is so much bigger than you.

Robert and Nathanael’s wedding was absolutely beautiful. What a great moment for those two men to honor their love in front of family, friends and fraternity brothers. The fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi is achievement in every field of human endeavor. This couple’s willingness to live their own truth and display an intimate moment for the entire world to see is a major step. You can even argue that this act is an unprecedented achievement. Robert and Nathanael are both living up to the fraternity’s purpose, as well as redefining it with this major milestone.

Let’s be real: Many people in this world are gay. This is fact. Honestly, there are gay people who are members of Kappa Alpha Psi and other predominately African-American fraternities and sororities. To belittle Robert, Nathanael, and Kappa Alpha Psi as an organization is pathetic.

I say that all same-sex-loving people who are a part of the fraternities and sororities that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council stand up and speak out. Here’s my challenge to gay and gay-rights-supporting members of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho and Iota Phi Theta: Live your truth and make a stand for equality. Only then will we all be able to truly coexist.

Teens and young adults across the world aspire to be part of these prestigious organizations, and many of the aspirants are indeed gay. Those who identify as LGBT should feel welcomed and unafraid to become members of organizations that strive to be shining examples to their respective communities. The gay population is a community that could benefit from more positive reinforcements. This is your chance, National Pan-Hellenic Council. Fraternity and sorority chapters across the country should now be having open and honest group discussions about being more inclusive and accepting.

Yes, they are still together….
