The younger brother of actress Salma Hayek was hospitalized in Los Angeles Sunday after a fatal car accident that claimed the life of his male passenger.
Sami Hayek, 40, was driving eastbound on Sunset Boulevard in Holmby Hills when he lost control of his 2006 Ford GT shortly before 5 p.m. and veered into the path of an oncoming Toyota Tacoma truck traveling westbound, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The passenger side of the rare two-seater sports car took the brunt of the impact, photos of the twisted wreckage from RMG News revealed.
Sami’s unidentified front-seat passenger – described as a 43-year-old resident of Mexico – suffered “major” blunt force trauma to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Police did not release the victim’s name early Monday pending notification of his family.
Sami, a furniture designers, suffered several broken ribs and a head laceration, police said.
Alvin Gomez, the 20-year-old driver of the 2011 white pickup, suffered a broken foot and complained of pain to his body, police said.
Both survivors were transported to a nearby hospital.
The accident remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made, police said.
