Rapper & Businessman Jay-Z Makes RIAA History, His 4:44 Has Officially Gone Platinum

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Hov achieved this milestone. But, there are other records that he’s officially set, as well. With 4:44 now going platinum, this makes JAY-Z the most decorated hip hop recording artist of RIAA’s Gold and Platinum Program.

Plus, the Brooklyn MC is now the first and only hip hop artist with four platinum collaborated albums and over 10 RIAA platinum albums. At midnight (June 30), iHeartRadio world premiered JAY-Z’s 4:44 album by having it play every other hour on our Hip Hop and R&B stations. The rap vet even told us the meanings behind each of his album’s songs.

When discussing the title track, Hov said: “‘4:44’ is a song that I wrote, and it’s the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album. And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 AM, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”
