President Obama just announced to MSNBC that he’s personally monitoring Army Corps of Engineers efforts to reroute the Dakota Access Pipeline (#dapl) away from the sacred lands of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe in North Dakota.
Obama expressed that as a country, we must respect the traditions and claims of the First American people:
We’re monitoring this closely. As a general rule, my view is that there is a way for us to accommodate the sacred lands of Native Americans. Right now the Army Corps is examining ways whether there are ways to re-route this pipeline. We’re going to let it play out for several more weeks, and determine whether or not this could be resolved in a way that is properly attentive to the traditions of the First Americans.
It’s the second time President Obama has discussed the problematic Dakota Access Pipeline, and brings the best news that we’ve heard to date.
Protests erupted over the proposed oil pipeline, which would desecrate sacred sites of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and contaminate precious nearby rivers with dangerous chemicals.
Not only have the protests stopped construction of DAPL, they’ve also exposed the double standard in America whereby peaceful protesters are abused while armed intruders like the Bundy gang get away with domestic terrorism.
Republican nominee Donald Trump has a financial stake in the Dakota Access Pipeline and would surely implement an immediate plan to continue construction of the dirty pipeline on the lands of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe.
