Ear Hustle 411 Supports Nouveau Tavern!!!!!
Nouveau Tavern is Chicago’s home for authentic New Orleans style cuisine. The menu, created by Executive Chef Norman Hargrove, is inspired by cuisine of the diverse and delicious South.
Etching out a space in a largely untapped culinary genre, Nouveau Tavern opened yesterday to bring French Quarter cuisine to Chicago. Jovial chef Norman Hargrove—formerly of the Peninsula Hotel’s Pierrot Gourmet—is the very picture of New Orleans, and his cuisine reflects that Southern sensibility.
From crawfish to cornbread to Cajun everything, Hargrove puts an upscale spin on the Creole classics. He turns the traditional po’boy sandwich into a set of sliders, piled with catfish and a spicy maple aioli. The crawfish fritters are another great starter, made with corn and bell pepper and served with lemon-cayenne mayo. The impressive Louisiana chicken steals the show when it comes to entrees: a half-roasted chicken is stuffed with cornbread and plated alongside Brussels sprouts, chicken andouille, and a special voodoo sauce. And it wouldn’t be a New Orleans meal without a slice of bourbon pecan pie to finish.
Beer, wine, and a bevy of traditional Southern cocktails will be the main attractions later in the evening, when Nouveau transforms into a late-night lounge after the dinner rush. 358 W. Ontario St., Near North Side, 312-915-4100
