A Muslim Student by the name of Faatimah Knight consulted with her Muslim brothers and sisters to come up with ways of helping her Christian Brothers and Sisters who’s churches were burnt down in a rash of unexplained church fires in the south.

She exclaimed, We have just raised a little under  thirty thousand dollars which will be used to help the six churches burned in South Carolina and other southern states.

She stated that she was overwhelmed by the generous donations and will start organizing to figure out how to help the churches with the monies raised.

After hearing about multiple churches being burned down and the FBI probe determined that several of the fires were deliberately set by people allegedly angry about the quest to have the Confederate Flag removed.

There have been several Muslim organizations such as The Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative, The Arab American Association of NY and Ummah Wide that have donated to this cause as well as other non Muslim faith based organizations.

“ALL houses of worship are sanctuaries, a place where all should feel safe, a place we can seek refuge when the world is too much to bear.”

Ms Knight, a Masters student at the Chicago Theological Seminary, said of her acquaintances some people had questioned the campaign and asked why she was raising money for Christian houses of worship, as opposed to a Muslim cause. But most were supportive.

She said, ” Islam taught of the need to protect the weak and vulnerable. She said while the black Christian communities of the South might not be weak, they were vulnerable.”

“I’m a black person and I do identify with the wider black community at that level,” she said. “Historically, the black community has been vulnerable.”

She added: “Traditionally, when we have been on our best behavior, we have created space for other faiths, and let people worship as they see fit.”
