A Gulfport woman was arrested Thursday after officers said they found her kneeling over a 1-year-old that had been beaten and bruised. Elise Arlyn Balsley-Bryant, 24, is charged with Felony Child Abuse.
Neighbors at William Bell Apartments on 65th Avenue were the ones who called police around 10:30am to report the assault. When officers arrived, they could hear yelling, and what sounded like an assault in progress. Once inside the apartment, the officers said they saw Balsley-Bryant kneeling on the floor over a toddler whose legs were tied together. The little boy’s head was swelling and his arms were bruised.
The child was taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
It was not immediately clear if Balsley-Bryant and the victim are related. She’s being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
