Mariah Carey Bombs At NBC Rockafeller Special But Apologizes For Not “Carey-ing” A Tune

All Mariah Carey wants for Christmas is her vocal range.

The Elusive Chanteuse bombed on live television during NBC’s annual “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” tree-lighting special on Wednesday — and, this time, she was fully aware of it. National television will do that to a person…

The 44-year-old octave-jumping diva failed to hit several notes during her cheerful classic, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which made for uncomfortable viewing and even more uncomfortable listening.

Deadspin even posted her shudder-inducing “unedited, isolated vocals” to illuminate how bad the singer really sounded. Brace yourself.

The botched performance, which took place amid citywide protests over the Eric Garner case, struck a chord with Carey and she took to Twitter to apologize to fans.

“Last night’s situation was beyond my control,” she tweeted. “I apologize to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you.”

TMZ reported that the singer was supposed to pre-tape the appearance but showed up three hours late to the pre-taping on Tuesday because she was meeting with lawyers about her split from husband Nick Cannon. NBC wouldn’t let her tape the segment and opted to have her sing live instead — a decision both parties surely regret now.

The special, which was hosted by “Today” show talent, also featured performances from Sara Bareilles, Seth MacFarlane, Idina Menzel and LeAnn Rimes. Though, according to Pop & Hiss’ Mikael Wood, Carey wasn’t the only thing that bombed last night.
