Howard University better have their marching band’s scholarship money or there will continue to be silence at the HBCU’s sporting events. The Showtime Marching Band has staged a #SilentShowtime protest after not receiving answers from the administration about why they haven’t received their scholarships.

The protest began Saturday at a game where the band wore all-black as they performed, according toTheeTru1Project, a blog that has been reporting on the demonstrations.

“Every year, the band is suppose to receive funding for both our organization’s budget and student scholarships, as outlined by the contacts we signed long before the semester began,” Terrell Tiendrebeogo, a senior biology major student, told Tru1P.

“Not one single member has received any scholarship fund…and when reaching out to the administration, we have yet to receive any viable information on this status,” he continued.

Student bandmembers explained their reasons for the pushback in Instagram posts. “The Howard University S.H.O.W.T.I.M.E Marching Band is taking a stand. We are seeking answers and a plan of action regarding the bands budget and disbursement of student scholarships. Until we get answers, we will not support Howard University with our musicianship,” one student wrote.
