Lonnie “Pops” Lynn, Father Of Rapper Common Dies at Age 71

The entertainment industry is has been buzzing for the last 24 hours as Chicago’s Own Common is mourning the loss of his father, Lonnie Lynn.

Lonnie Lynn affectionately called “Pops” was born and raised in Chicago, IL and a star in his own right.  He was a high school basketball star from DuSable High School that went on to play college ball.  Drafted in the 1966 NBA Draft by the St Louis Hawks and he played for the ABA Philadelphia Pipers for only 1 season.

Lynn’s claim to fame was not only in basketball but also by way of his son Common.  He has been known to add his gift of spoken word flavor to Common’s recordings.  His last recording was on 2011 release “The Dreamer/The Believer”
