Latter Day Saints Church Ends Its 105-Year Connection With The Boy Scouts Of America In 2019

Times are definitely changing and most certainly for the Mormon church and the Boy Scouts of America as they end their 105 year reign of support.  It was announced previously the Boy Scouts Of America will allow girls to join as well the allowing of gay troop leaders into the ranks.

The powers that be at the Church of Latter-day Saints ain’t having it and as the times change this institution does not plan on changing with it.  Reports are circulating the church has plans on starting their own scout designed organization for young boys and girls.

The LDS church will completely sever ties with the Boy Scouts of America at the end of next year. The religion will move its remaining boys into its own scouting-type program that will involve both boys and girls, ages 8 to 18.

The announcement Tuesday night by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Boy Scouts marks an end to close relationship that lasted more than a century built on their shared values.

Made in a joint statement by the LDS Church and the BSA which reads”

We have jointly determined that, effective on December 31, 2019, the Church will conclude its relationship as a chartered organization with all Scouting programs around the world. Until that date, to allow for an orderly transition, the intention of the Church is to remain a fully engaged partner in Scouting for boys and young men ages 8–13 and encourages all youth, families, and leaders to continue their active participation and financial support.

The exit by Mormon leaders comes after Boy Scouts decided in 2015 to allow gay troop leaders and announced last year it would allow girls in the ranks.

The Boy Scouts last week said it will change its name next year to Scouts BSA after deciding to accept girls into its program in Oct.

The religion has long been the biggest sponsor of Boy Scout troops in the United States for over 100 years.

For years, Church leaders have been preparing a new initiative to teach and provide leadership and development opportunities to all children and youth, to support families and to strengthen youth everywhere as they develop faith in the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This new approach is intended to help all girls and boys, young women and young men discover their eternal identity, build character and resilience, develop life skills and fulfill their divine roles as daughters and sons of God.
