After years of speculation it is now official that Tyrese Gibson is set to play Teddy Pendergrass in an upcoming biopic.
The crooner confirmed that news by simply posting a photo of the late star on Twitter with the caption:
While the R’n’B singer has done dozens of movies – he has yet to sing in a flick.
Teddy Pendergrass whose real name is Theodore DeReese “Teddy” Pendergrass was born on March 26, 1950 and died on January 13, 2010 in Pennsylvania, began his career in the 1970s in a band called Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes.
Pendergrass’ released over 14 albums including “It’s Time for Love,” “This One’s for You,” “Heaven Only Knows,” “Truly Blessed,” “This One’s for You” and “Heaven Only Knows” that came out in the 1980’s after his terrible car accident where he suffered from spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
The father of 4 who died of respiratory failure just months after surgery for colon cancer handpicked Tyrese to portray him in the biopic.
The “Act Like That” singer revealed to the media in 2011:
Lee Daniels who is also from Philadelphia might be directing the film.
