Upset that an 11-year-old boy had changed the channel on her TV, a suburban West Palm Beach woman allegedly grabbed a large kitchen knife and stabbed the boy, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Mary E. Cooper, 54, was arrested Wednesday evening and faces a charge of aggravated child abuse. She was released from the Palm Beach County jail on Thursday on her own recognizance.
The boy told a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy that he took the TV control and changed the channel. Cooper told him to change the channel back, but the remote would not work. The boy said that Cooper then picked up the remote and hit him on the head with it.
That began a physical confrontation between Cooper and the boy, the report says. Cooper pushed the boy onto a couch, scratching his chest. Cooper followed by grabbing a knife and began poking the boy with it, resulting in a minor cut on his left wrist, the affidavit states.
The boy left the house and alerted a security guard, who called deputies. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue treated the boy at the scene.
The affidavit does not describe the relationship between Cooper and the boy.
