Florida Woman Performs C-Section On Dog And Used Household Glue To Close The Wound

Candace Hauser

A Florida woman allegedly performed a botched “C-section” on someone else’s dog without anesthesia, and then sealed the incision with non-medical glue.

Candace Hauser, 31, now faces aggravated animal cruelty charges in the dog’s death.

The dog’s owner brought her pregnant mastiff, Nadia, to Hauser’s Winter Haven home early on March 4. Hauser told the woman that she could provide emergency medical help and deliver the litter of puppies herself, the Tampa Bay Times reports. According to a police report, Hauser also told the owner that there was a vet’s office nearby.

Hauser, who has no veterinary license, encountered difficulty delivering the last two puppies in a litter of 14. Rather than take Nadia to the veterinarian, she cut the dog open without anesthesia, then used non-medical glue to help close the wound, according to Bay News 9.

Police said that the dog died during the car ride back to its owner’s home. About 12 hours later, Hauser allegedly showed up at the vet’s office with Nadia and said the dog was dying. The vet told the owner that the dog was already dead. Staff contacted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, which launched an investigation.

Neighbors were disgusted by the allegations, noting the preponderance of veterinary offices in the area.

“You know, that’s totally unnecessary… I can’t believe anybody would do that to an animal,” John Leavines told Bay News 9. “Not with all the veterinary offices around here. That’s totally uncalled for.”

On Tuesday, Hauser spoke with the Tampa Bay Times:

Hauser denied Tuesday that the dog died. She told a reporter that she is the owner of the dog, and that it and its 10 puppies that are healthy and in her home.

The first nine were delivered at her home, and the last was delivered at a veterinary office in Hillsborough County via C-section, she said.
