El Chapo Is On The Loose But 38 Hip Hop Tracks That Glorify His Very Existence

Hip-hop has always had a fascination for notorious drug lords and with the recent prison escape of El Chapo—one of the most infamous drug kingpins of all time—the hip-hop community has decided to praise the Mexican king pin for his clever tactics outwitting the Mexican authorities. (If you missed the news, Chapo escaped from the prison shower via a nearly mile-long tunnel hooked up with lights and ventilation that led him beyond the prison walls to safety.) While we saw the release of two Chapo-inspired records this week from Future and Shy Glizzy, hip-hop has always had an affection for the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Responsible for an estimated 25 percent of all illegal drugs that enter the U.S. via Mexico, El Chapo has remained as one of hip-hop’s favorite drug lords. From Gucci Mane to Fashawn to Chief Keef to Tony Yayo, several rappers have mentioned the drug lord in their records and have named him as the king of all trappers; Yayo even has a three-tape-strong mixtape series called El Chapo.
