DaBrat is reuniting with Missy Elliott and Lil Kim to perform their 1997 smash hit, “Ladies Night [Not Tonight]” in a scheduled tribute to Kool and The Gang on the Soul Train Awards, airing November 30.

Conspicuously missing from the upcoming performance is original collaborator and current Power 105.1 radio host, Angie Martinez. DaBrat is as clueless as fans about why Angie isn’t slated to share the stage with her fellow artists.

“You have to ask the producers about that; I don’t know what’s going on with that. They just hit me; Missy [Elliott] hit me,” said DaBrat. “That’s like one of my favorite songs and it was an honor to work with all those ladies.”

Speaking on the topic of her good friend Mariah Carey’s pending divorce, DaBrat said, “She’s doing fine. Yes, we are still friends and everything is great and Nick [Cannon] is a great person, too. She’s one of my best friends. They had their issues just like every married couple; they’re moving forward; she is and so is he.”

DaBrat has been, for the most part, absent from the music scene for quite a while following her 2007 arrest for aggravated assault, which resulted in a 3-year prison sentence. Nonetheless, she is working on a new mixtape with Jermaine Dupri, her mentor and musical partner since entering the music business 21 years ago. DaBrat was the first female solo rap artist certified platinum.

Citing legends Queen Latifah, Salt-n-Pepa and MC Lyte as artists who paved the way for her, DaBrat shared her thoughts on today’s female rappers.

“I like Nicki [Minaj]; I like Iggy [Azalea]. People tell me Iggy sounds a lot like me. I don’t hear it, but so many people tell me,” she said. “I feel like she got her own style; Brat is gonna be Brat…there’s only one Brat. I take it as a compliment.”

Although she is unable to divulge specific details, DaBrat confirmed that she has a new reality show on the horizon.

“One of my main goals though, is to reunite all female MCs,” she said. “I love Nicki Minaj; I love Iggy, but it’s so many of us that are still out here doing our thing and grinding hard that we need that platform. So, if possible, I’m going to give us a platform somehow to promote female rappers up and coming and the legends like myself.”

The “Soul Train Awards” air on BET and Centric, November 30 at 8 p.m. EST.
