Rickey Smiley‘s third female co-host in just over a year on his syndicated morning show is rap star Da Brat.
Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntee Harris, today replaced “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member Claudia Jordan, who spent a year with the show but was let go earlier this week. Last year, Jordan took over for the popular Ebony Steele, who had been with Smiley for seven years but was also released from duties without explanation.
She read the news this morning at 7:14 a.m., including the Confederate battle flag taken down at South Carolina and Bobby Brown‘s new daughter.
Smiley’s morning show, heard on more than 60 markets nationwide, is produced in downtown Atlanta and heard on Hot 107.9 locally. Porsha Williams remains as the female representative on the syndicated TV show “Dish Nation.”
A 41-year-old Atlanta resident, Da Brat was the first female solo rap artist to go platinum with her album “Funkdafied” in 1994.
She spent three years in prison after a 2007 altercation at a nightclub, striking a hostess with a rum bottle. She also participated in the fifth season of “Celebrity Fit Club” on VH1.
Da Brat has been a regular visitor to the Smiley show over the past year. She has done freestyle battles with both cast members Headkrack and Gary With Da Tea:
In May, she joined the show in the Caribbean:
Jordan, in the meantime, has been widely reported as having been cut from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Nobody at Bravo has officially confirmed that and neither has Jordan. The reality is Bravo doesn’t make final decisions on casting until well after production begins. And season eight production has just begun. So we’ll probably know in a few weeks whether Jordan is out completely, reduced to a recurring role or kept as a full-fledged member of the show.
