Leaving a child behind at daycare for the first time can be incredibly stressful for parents, but they try to calm their anxiety by remembering that daycare workers will protect and nurture their child as if they were their own.

However, when one Indian mom picked her nine-month-old daughter from her first day at daycare, she became suspicious when she found a bruise on her daughter’s face. “Ritisha was fast asleep but there was a bruise under her eye,” dad Rajat Sinha said.

“When my wife asked about it, the center owner said she had hit herself while playing. Initially, we thought that Ritisha may have been stressed because it was her first day, and we believed the caretaker. But at home, she was crying continuously and refused to eat anything.”

Mom Ruchita then found more bruises on their baby’s back and behind her ear, and knew they had to bring baby Ritisha to the doctor after she started vomiting and developed a fever. Doctors discovered a small fracture in the back of her head, which had caused internal bleeding. The horrified parents immediately called the police, who arrested the daycare worker and owner after seeing the shocking security footage of the abuse.

“We could not believe our eyes while watching the CCTV footage,” Ruchita said. “It was inhuman. The carer was manhandling my daughter – hitting her with toys and throwing her on the mat,” Rajat added. “We just saw what she did to my baby, who knows how she is treating the other kids at the center.”
