According to ABC News, A 24-year-old woman has been charged in the murder of a woman who is the daughter of a Chicago police officer.

Police have had the woman in custody since Friday night and early Monday police announced Chynna Stapleton has been charged with first degree murder.

Police said Stapleton was behind the wheel of a 2002 Jeep Liberty that was used to run down Tatyanna Lewis.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Lewis was the 18-year-old daughter of a Chicago police officer.

“Just senseless violence in this city. We shouldn’t have it, but we do. My thoughts and prayers go out to that officer and his family because no one should have to go through something like that,” Johnson said.

Police said after a fight between the two women on Friday night, Stapleton got into the SUV, drove up onto the sidewalk and rammed Lewis into a tree near 114th and May streets Then, police said she backed up and running over Lewis’ body at least two more times.

Stapleton drove off afterwards, hitting several cars before being taken into custody, police said.

Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It’s really hard because, you know, in the last couple of weeks we had three police officers shot trying to keep this city safe, so violence happens. It can happen to anybody at any time. It can touch anybody. That’s why it’s so important for us as a city to come together to tap it down,” Johnson said.

Sources told ABC7 Stapleton went to confront Lewis about a man. Stapleton was allegedly enraged over a new relationship between the father of her baby and Lewis.

Police said Stapleton’s Jeep had pieces of wood lodged into the front bumper, which was smashed. It is unclear if the bandages on Stapleton’s face in her mugshot were injuries from the crime.

Meanwhile, witnesses said a child was in the back seat of the SUV when it was located by police.

Stapleton is scheduled to appear in bond court on Monday.
